By dasitor , December 15, in Repairs and Technical. I recently bought a Squier VM Jazz V from someone who had already changed the pots and cabling to a higher standard, but left the Duncan Designed pickups in. I have been playing the bass for the last few days and can't get over the feeling that the low B is not great sounding and the general tone is mid-frequency overloaded. Also, there is quite a bit of noise that may be due in part to an amateurish soldering job, I don't know. I have never used them and now I am feeling tempted to install them in this bass. But I am not sure if it will be worth the effort. Are they the same type of pickups?

Mar 18, 5, Germany. If not put it all back and sell the pickups. Even though the price differences were great, the differences in sound were marginal.

By pathofspirit May 9, in Electric Guitars. Any thoughts on the "Duncan Designed" pickups that come on some of the Squire strats? Are they of a vastly different quality than Semour Duncans? There are currently several humbuckers available in the Duncan Designed range, each of which is neck or bridge position-calibrated and was modeled after a USA-built model. I've got the HB set that came with my Schecter and never switched them out; to my surprise they were perfect. HB's in my Schecter were not so hot.

I have found some 80s Duncan Designed single coil pickups on Facebook. What I want isn't going to be what the next player wants, but its a no brainer: You have the pickups to hand, put them in and see what you think Perhaps perception has a thing to do with it. Just dont buy them for or in a guitar and expect them to sound like the real Duncans. I don't know if this counts as a valid statistical sample, but I'll not be buying duncan designed pickups any time soon.

A huge selection of big, warm, punchy, and powerful humbuckers, active and passive, for any style. The clear, focused, bell-like tone that we associate with that beloved guitar design.

I thought that maybe it was just a matter of personal taste and that I should try a different type of pickup. Basically SD gave the number of windings, wire and magnet specs, to an Asian company to make and then put DD on the face plus take a cut of sales. I've fooled around with friends' guits with DD hums and it's been a mixed bag. It may be a PU-guit match issue, but I've heard that there's a lot more variability in how they're constructed and wound compared to the real thing. Looks like you haven't made a choice yet. Edited December 18, by Lozz And enjoy your holidays! Duncan Designed? Are they supposedly from the 80s and designed by Seymour Duncan? Christmas shopping and all that has taken most of my time, sorry. The DuncDes pickups should be okay if you were to tune to C or D. He corrected his ad and an honest mistake that can confuse non guitar enthusiasts.
