Updated: Jul 8, I finally decided to give my trusty, over ten years old, Marshall JCM DSL a review - after so many years of great service, I think the world needs to know. The has two foot-switchable channels, with an optional 20db boost on the dirt channel, that is also foot-switchable foot switch included. Like most Marshalls, the two preamp channels are powered by 12AX7 tubes, one for the clean channel, two for the dirt channel and one for phase inversion. The power section is powered by a quartet of EL84s, again - typical to lower wattage Marshall amps, although at 40 Watts it could also be powered by a pair of EL34s.

The DSLH has two gain channels to produce that legendary Marshall sound with rich functionality for those who require flexibility and unquestionable quality. The amp can move between two sounds within each gain channel, so that players can create and release their personality through sound. There are two master volume functions so you can bring your solo to the forefront. Using the individual reverb for the two footswitchable gain channels, FX loop and tone shift controls you can experiment with your style. For those more demanding players, the amps features can be controlled using any MIDI equipment, so you can play this amp and different MIDI equipment at any one time. The DSL can be easily taken from the bedroom, to the studio onto a gig using the five available speaker outputs, it also has the ability to record and a standby function for silent recording. The DSL can be used in many environments with confidence as the power can be reduced from W to 50W without affecting the quality. It's a simple amp to use, it has been reliable so far about 11 years , it is well built and sounds the way I need it to sound. I always have to apply some aggressive EQ cuts to clean up whistling frequencies I have done it many times using an SM57, various condensers and combinations of an SM57 with a condenser, with good results.
