I had several packages going out this morning and threw everything into one big bag, stopped at the post office and dumped them all in the chute, then ran the rest of my morning errands. I usually check the tracking status of my items in the evening to make sure everything was scanned and when I did that tonight I realized one of them was a UPS package. I don't ship USPS ground anymore because they've destroyed a couple of ground shipments so every now and then I have a UPS shipment but not often which is why I spaced it this time. Dropping off a UPS package at the post office essentially puts it into the wrong shipping pipeline. The USPS carriers and workers who pick up from blue collection boxes or at post office counters do not know that package is actually supposed to go out via UPS. They simply see a package and assume it is USPS mail. This can lead to the package sitting at the post office for days or getting shipped very slowly via standard USPS ground routes.
