There are also corrupt runes, created from dried kelp and algae, pigment made from flowers, and the bones of a human who died in terror and with regrets. These powerful runes allow for spells far beyond those possible with usual runes, but must be balanced out by a normal rune. If this is not so, the spell can go disastrously wrong. In Dishonored , a maximum of 39 runes are obtainable in a single playthrough, but 58 would be needed to upgrade every ability to Tier II. Therefore, Corvo Attano must assign them according to the approach he favors the most.

Once again, magic bleeds into the realm of Dishonored in Dishonored 2 , giving players another complication to an already divisive and harsh world. Playing as either the assassin Corvo or the victim-turned-ruler Emily, you must sneak about in a world that already suspects you of eliminating your enemies while working to reunite the Empire under fair rule. Runes are the Outsider's way of aiding in your mission, providing either Emily or Corvo with a slew of abilities and power-ups that can make your life as a player a little more interesting. For the collector player, discovering the locations of all the runes in the game will help you get that achievement trophy you're after too, so be wary and keep out of High Chaos to make life easiest. Also, if you're playing in No Power Mode, the runes at the black market shop will no longer be available. Campo Seta Dockyards: There are a lot of runes available in this location. You can find one in the open mouth of a whale dragged to shore, on a table near a preaching Overseer, and behind a wooden plank in the central canal. You can get two from another Outsider shrine inside Amadeo Monte's apartment. The Overseers are hiding one in a safe in their outpost, and you can buy one from the black market shop.

In Dishonored 2 , 47 runes total may be collected from the maps and more may be crafted with the Craft Runes upgrade for the Bonecharm Crafting ability, while runes are needed to fully upgrade the protagonist's powers. Should Emily Kaldwin or Corvo refuse the Outsider's Mark , they will sell any runes they find to the black market for coin.
