Evans Light. Hoke is actually a very likeable character and as most authors do in such graphic horror he ends up being the comedic relief. You could clue in quickly enough but I would have preferred each chapter titled so you would instantly know that this chapter is about Michelle and Abby or Justine and Pete. There is one scene later on in the book that is so completely repulsive, disgusting, and absurd, that I didn't know how to take it. Anyway, I really enjoyed this book. Hell, I don't know. Those could have been condensed a little better, I believe. Publishers Grindhouse Press , May Justine was one of my favorite characters in the book. I suppose I just expected to hear more about the evils within the man and truly astonishing feats of cleverness he'd managed to pull off; not minute day-to-day details of his shuffling around of people, all in an attempt to hide the murder and defrauding of his friend, and this information instead being masqueraded as evidence of the clever, "brilliant" man able to disarm even the most intelligent, well-bred young woman with his wicked, scheming ways. We know Holmes killed Pitzel and the three children, Minnie and Nannie Williams, and countless other victims, but in his final confession delivered to his confessor, Holmes only admits to two murders; he is a true liar to the end.

He would dump the bodies down a shoot which would lead from the top of the house down into the basement where he had many ways of getting rid of the bodies, including specially designed furnaces and vats of lime. I had no idea where it was going - and the supernatural elements of the story worked well, surprisingly.
