Dennis D. Dmitriy Siver, born January 13, is a retired Russian-born German mixed martial artist who competed in the welterweight, lightweight, and featherweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Siver began training in Sambo and Judo when he was 15 years old and, at 17, moved to Germany where he continued his training with Taekwondo and Kickboxing. That same year, he became the W. O Amateur Kickboxing Champion of Germany.

I kid, but it was legitimately jarring to see Siver photoshopped in there alongside all those main eventers, since we've been given no reason to believe he belongs. As of this writing, the lead-up to this fight has been very—shall we say— McGregorian. The teaser trailers have been about McGregor, the minute documentary specials on Fox Sports 1 have been about McGregor and the SportsCenter interview slots have been reserved for McGregor, too. It was a whole plan of timing. Also we just wanted to get you guys in the media riled up. We did it with Tito Ortiz in the early days.

The Australian, Sotiropoulos, was the clear fan-favorite in this fight and had completely mowed through all of his competition in the UFC. He is in his last seven fights and was looking to get into the top in the lightweight division. Siver repeatedly attempted left high kicks in the first minute of the fight but Sotiropoulos defended well and didn't take much damage. George went for a takedown twice midway through the first round but Siver used excellent takedown defense to avoid going to the ground where he would clearly be the lesser-skilled fighter. Siver landed a couple shots on Sotiropoulos, clearly rocking him twice with about a minute left in the round but Siver was unable to finish the fight. Sotiropoulos looked completely outclassed on the feet and could not bring Siver to the ground. Sotiropoulos' corner, namely Eddie Bravo, reminded him between rounds that Siver had a huge weight cut and could be tired going into Round 2. He looked tired himself, though, and a bit shocked at how many shots he took in the first round. In the second round, Siver again tagged Sotiropoulos a few times early but George didn't seem to be as effected.

Since his teenage years, the Russia native has spent time forging his skills and challenging himself in various martial arts disciplines. Nevertheless, a life committed to setting your will against that of another at the highest levels of competition is one where setbacks and adversity are simply part of the terrain, and the year-old featherweight has experienced his fair share of ups and downs along his journey. Yet, during his time spent in two of the most talent-stacked divisions under the UFC banner, the Mannheim, Germany-based fighter has come to find something deeper in the quest for redemption.
