On his journey to become the number one hero, Izuku Midoriya, or Deku, has been through a number of trials and tribulations. Some of the situations he's found himself in are extreme for anyone, even a fictional teenager. But, using his wits, strength, and some luck, he manages to pull through in the end. Deku has gone out of his way many times, which shaped the story as well as his character. Deku is known for thinking his plans through and therefore making some good decisions. Though some of Deku's more recent decisions in the manga are a bit more divisive, most of his decisions in the anime were, and continue to be, extremely important. When Deku told, or rather, yelled these words to Shoto Todoroki, it gripped fans. Even though they were opponents battling in the sports festival, Deku took the time to encourage Todoroki, which says a lot about his character. This moment naturally also left an impact on Todoroki, as it gave him the push he needed to finally use his father's fire Quirk. Deku trying to help his friend reach his full potential, even though said friend was his opponent, was a heroic thing to do. The name "Deku" was originally used as an insult by his childhood bully, Bakugo. It doesn't exactly have a meaning, but there are supposedly a few Japanese words it sounds like it could be derived from. Bakugo used it in a derogatory manner when he realized that "Deku" was another way to read the kanji for "Deku.

Some of their exercises are quite clever, like Bakugo submerging his hands in boiling water to expand his sweat glands, while others, like Kaminari electrocuting himself by running a current through a large capacity battery, are quite funny, thanks to the exaggerated animation that emphasizes its impact. All signs point to an increased role for the Class B students in the episodes to come, and seeing their homeroom teacher Sekijiro attempt build them up so they can rise above the shadow of Class A was heartwarming. Additionally, his explanation of how to strengthen one's Quirk, likening it to the process of damaging muscle fibers so they can repair and become stronger, was an excellent illustration that provides real-world example the viewer can relate to. As its title implies, "Kota" also spends a fair bit of time on Kota, and Deku's desire to reach him. Much like how Deku broke through to Todoroki during the sports festival, Deku sees a brokenness within Kota and wants to help him.

Magne nearly strikes down Mandalay the same way she did Pixie-Bob, but Tiger saves her and attacks Magne with a flurry of punches.

Despite the little interaction that is seen between them, it is evident that Kota felt a great affection towards his parents. However, their murders at the hands of Muscular caused Kota a profound shock. Kota believed that his parents chose their work over him, and developed a cynical and jaded view of the world of heroes.

Muscular believes that Izuku's next move won't matter anyway and starts to attack. Seeing Midoriya stand victorious over Muscular, Kota recalls the words Mandalay once told him. None of the class members attempt to get close to him. In doing so, the dynamic between them changed for the better, and they are now able to have a healthy rivalry. It comes part and parcel with the title, especially in an anime like My Hero Academia. Deku used a kick-based fighting style as his special, signature move. Muscular expands his Quirk to its limit, supercharging his power. The villain smashes Izuku into the ground and begins to crush against the ground. Muscular responds that it was the actions of his parents that got them killed, not his own. This one choice is what put the rest of the story in motion. Choosing to run after the sludge villain is definitely one of the most important decisions Deku made in the series. As he prepares to finish Izuku off, he says that Izuku's no hero and he'll die without ever becoming one. Kota says that Izuku is a hero, "My Hero". Izuku carries Kota while avoiding the attacks until Muscular knocks them both down. This shows that Deku's perseverance extends beyond hero work.
