At the park, Nicole asks God to save Eric from her. Roman finds her and they discuss her helping to identify her and Eric's attacker. She heads home. In the rectory, the junkie returns. While Eric's back is turned, he walks up and places a rope around his neck and strangles him. Eric struggles and breaks free and a knife goes flying. The junkie grabs it and threatens to cut his own throat.

Bo's father reluctantly told him to search for answers at Ian's pub. Anna used Carrie against Roman, and he vowed vengeance. Laura refused to make love to Mickey, but he didn't start an affair with Linda until he and Laura had separated.

In Ava's room at Tripp and Wendy's apartment, Harris awoke to find that Ava had brought breakfast in bed. Ava was happy that Tripp and Wendy had been rescued. Harris said that Clyde had to have had help in escaping Statesville, and he wondered if Stefan had had a hand in the escape. Ava dismissed Stefan as a possibility. Harris complimented Ava for being a strong and empowered woman. Ava smiled tenderly at Harris, who thanked Ava for her generosity. Ava received a call from Steve, who said that he and Ava needed to meet face to face.

Marina Toscano, Steve's presumed dead wife, arrived in Salem. Peter went into cardiac arrest, but he survived only to "die" a little later. Stranded without a boat or radio, Bo jumped into the river and tried to swim back to Salem for his wedding day to Hope, but he couldn't make the swim. More than ten years earlier, Tom Jr. Mike and Ali see each other on a social basis, but Ali gets possessive and Mike breaks it off. Knowing the pregnancy was the result of the rape in the park, and fearing a child could jeopardize her relationship with Greg, she considered abortion. Diana then became involved with Victor in order to find out more about the disk, but she was really in love with Roman. Ironically, as the drug operation took Bo and Billie to Rome, Hope and Franco who had finally told Hope of his deep feelings for her also arrived in Rome for a modeling assignment. When she doesn't pick up, he calls for his jet to be fueled. Marie attempted to find the child she'd given up at birth, and discovered Jessica Blake was already in Salem. Hope and Bo's son, Shawn-Douglas, was born, and the family left town on a sailboat bound for a trip around the world.

Marie was on Cloud Nine preparing for her wedding. Hope was presumed dead. She also lashed out at everyone whom she believed had wronged her. But Julie remained secretly preoccupied with her new stepfather, Doug, even though he was a faithful husband to Addie. Later, Roman gave up and accepted that Marlena and John belonged together. Roman's return played into Sami's plans. To his parents' chagrin, Mickey dated divorcee and former client Diane Hunter. He still wanted to marry Susan Martin but she refused, knowing he should stay in Salem near his family. Laura was released and Kristen made sure that Laura continued to be drugged to boost her memory loss. She heads home. Shortly after, Nick was mysteriously murdered. Marlena and John shared a special Christmas morning with little ones, Brady and Belle. She died in John's arms in Italy a few months later. Neil Curtis would back her story, but he would not.
