I just finished DMC 4 and started playing DmC 2 hours in So far, I have to say this game is superior story wise, graphics obviously , badassery, However I preferred dmc's 4 smoother style of combat, I use a controller and to do the forward dash attack I have to 2x forward LS and press Y to execute the attack, it feels unnatural. But I think the older hairstyle white would've suit him more, the new hair kind of makes him look like an "average joe" not some special badass devil son of sparda kinda guy. I also like the old cocky, sarcastic, funny dante better than this one; which seems to have a bit of an attitude which is good but a bit too serious. He gets his old hair color by the end of the game. Having watched the cut scenes for 3 and 4, I think the reason the new Dante seems so serious is because the old Dante was so over the top. As someone who knew little to nothing about Devil May Cry before playing this game, I found Dante to be quite a funny character. I think it's just a matter of his humor being darker and more subtle than the other games. Hahah good one. I'd get it, except dante's hair would probably revert back to normal in cutscenes, so screw that. Subtle as relative to previous Devil May Cry games. Dante in this game doesn't perform an opera like Dante in DMC 4 for example. Or make sexual innuendos as he's flying around with a new weapon. For example, one of my favorite lines of dialogue in the game is when he's facing off against two Tyrants in Virility. He makes a comment about them competing to be Limbo's Biggest Loser and proceeds to give them their place as he kills them.

In the same interview, another noted influence on Dante both design-wise and character-wise was Cobra of the acclaimed Japanese manga and anime series Space Adventure Cobra. Kamiya believed Cobra's cocky attitude and red attire were key points for a "heroic" character. Ironically, despite Cobra being a heavy cigar smoker, Dante himself does not smoke, as Kamiya believed Dante to be cooler without a cigarette.
