I did a lot of research before i purchased my first home in Dandenong. The area in which I purchased is very ideal for renting, it's extremely close to shopping facilities, parks, restaurants, a milk bar, a good private school and a pub the Dandenong workers social club. Plus it's close to the M1 free way and princess highway if your heading towards the city for work. At the moment, prices are relatively cheap, and there is a high demand of people wanting to rent property in the area, due to all the amenities and facilities.

Another popular theory is that the name comes from 'bad flour', or 'no good damper'. A local tale revolves around local aboriginals obtaining a bag of lime and mistakenly using it to make damper. An old local hotel was the 'No Good Damper Inn'.

Bought in Dandenong North a year ago and love my decision. Dandenong North is quite different than Dandenong and Springvale where occasional crime may occur , as it is more of a residential suburb rather than commerical. You wont find any junkies and commission housing here, just friendly and smiling people. There are some good schools like Silverton Primary which was chosen 1 in Victoria under a cetain category - as per myschool website , Elizabeth Primary. With Melbourne boundary extending upto Pakenham and Cranbourne, Dandenong North feels like in the centre. You can goto Ringwood, Frankston, Berwick within minutes. Just be careful living near Heatherton Rd as there are some troublemakers there, you cannot go wrong if you live in the northenmost parts of Dandy North.
