It has been a while since I have had Korean barbecue and I was excited to try this restaurant out. We went to their first location in uptown Koreantown their second restaurant location is just up the street and also on Yonge Street. We found out that they open at noon, so we arrived promptly to be one of the first customers to get a table with the hope of not having to wait for a table. We initially had some trouble finding their onsite parking I mistakenly thought it was acceptable to park in the few spots next to the store but that is not theirs , so upon consulting the staff, we found out their designated customer parking spots are located just behind the restaurant you have to watch out for a little black sign that has the name of the restaurant on it. After we parked our vehicles successfully and entered the restaurant, I was pleased to see that we got a table easily. The restaurant was a bit dim in some areas especially where we were sitting , but the atmosphere was like we were at an authentic Korean restaurant.

Whatever the reason, I find myself daydreaming about grilled meat at least once a week. We arrived around 6pm on a Wednesday and was lucky enough to grab a booth without a wait. Service: All of the staff we interacted with were quite friendly and helpful. After placing our order, the grill was set-up right away was followed quickly by the raw ingredients. The server gave a description of how each meat was prepared and It was easy to refill side dishes and water. The steamed egg portion of the grill was also refilled for us without any prompting. The only hiccup was that it took a bit of time for us to flag someone down for the bill. Lights were dim and soju poured at every boisterous table. I was happy we were seated at a comfortable booth instead of the round grill tables with backless stools. The stools were very useful to double as storage for jackets and bags as the restaurant was very cozy with tables packed tight and full of diners. By the time we left, there was a lengthy waitlist. There was also a good selection of other Korean dishes on the menu seafood pancake, stews but we were sticking to meat. As is, our order came with rice, a hot bowl of soybean soup, a typical selection of banchan and the grill heated up corn and cheese and steamed egg.

During the first hour or so of dinner this week at Daldongnae Korean BBQ, we kept a growing tally of gripes. The wait for the meat that we would cook on our tabletop grill was a little long, and we wound up eating accoutrements and side dishes that should have accompanied our beef and pork. It definitely needed its dipping sauce to be appealing. Lettuce that was meant for making meaty wraps was too soggy and a little gritty. The servings of sauces were meagre, and we needed to ask for refills. The Korean spirits, beer and sake on the menu tempted us, and would have made us a little more patient. For my very carnivorous dining companion who had not previously eaten Wagyu, this splurge-y highlight of dinner was revelatory.
