Lavi is a main protagonist and member of the fictional religious organization known as the Black Order and successor to the Bookman clan, in the anime and manga series D. Gray-man, by Katsura Hoshino. Lavi is a red-haired Exorcist of mixed race with a green eye. His hair is usually worn spiked with a bandanna wrapped around his head, and sometimes worn without the bandanna. He also wears an eye patch on his right eye for reasons unknown, but he has stated that it is not due to an injury. Lavi initially wears an Exorcist uniform with a long coat and a long orange scarf around his neck. He has since changed his uniform twice and has donned a new bandanna and scarf.

Lavi is, at least in my opinion, one of the most complicated characters in all of the D. Gray-Man series. It is hard to tell what is "Lavi" and what is the Bookman side of him. We know next-to-nothing about his past, as well as next-to-nothing on the set-up of his mind and how it works with all the personas he has undertaken. The following is a character analysis on Lavi and what I feel would be appropriate explanations for his behaviour and mannerisms. The following is also only a stab in the dark - most of this has not been officially disregarded nor confirmed in canon. From what we see of Lavi at the start of the manga, he seems quite simple to understand. Lavi gives Allen the offer of going outside for a walk, and the both of them make a snowman whilst chatting a little. When Allen goes all existential and storms off, getting annoyed when Lavi calls him beansprout, Lavi comments on Allen being a brat after all. His expression is serious here, and you begin to wonder what exactly Lavi and Bookman are there for. You find out later that they are there to document the hidden history connected to the war between the Black Order and the Noah Clan, but also to document the events connected to Allen, since he is the prophesised Destroyer of Time. Starting out with basic personality traits, Lavi comes across as both very immature and very mature.

Lavi belongs to Marian Unit. Lavi is a tall, handsome, and well-built [1] young man with fairly light skin. He has longish, ginger [2] red in anime hair and tends to wear it up in a bandanna, and green almond-shaped slightly downward-slanted eyes.

Bookman found Lavi at a very young age and chose him to become his successor for reasons that have yet to be revealed. As a Bookman Lavi began training when he was very young. He has had many different aliases, currently totaling 49, [1] with "Lavi" being the most recent. This began to change when Lavi joined the Black Order and became friends with its members. Lavi and Bookman joined the Order just as a funeral was in progress. It was during that time that Lavi first glimpsed Lenalee. Later, Johnny Gill eagerly asked for Lavi's measurements so a proper uniform could be made for him; Lavi maintained emotional distance during this, knowing that someday they would all be excluded from common history. Two months after joining the Order, Lavi discovered Tup Dop , Johnny , and other members of the science department attempting to hide a virus created by Komui.

Shortly after meeting Krory, Lavi and Bookman join a group of exorcists to find the missing General Cross Marian , who is being targeted by the Millennium Earl 's forces. Its unique eye is filled with a pupil which is surrounded by a black star-like pattern with four edges. But I feel that this is very very important. But I am digressing. Lavi stated that he forgot he could use it to affect nature directly, and as he remembered it the question mark turned into a kanji that he used right away.
