Dragon Age: Inquisition released in and introduced players to an incredible open-world, brilliant new characters, a plot filled with twists and turns, and more. Fans of the Dragon Age franchise are waiting in anticipation for the next installment, Dragon Age 4 , and in the mean-time, many are replaying their old favorites to get their Thedas fix. One of the main story characters of Inquisition is Cullen Rutherford, Commander of the Inquisition, one of three advisors to the Inquisitor and a possible love interest too. While players might have spent their fair amount of time with the dashing commander in the game, there may be a thing or two about him that they weren't aware of. Even if they've played the entire Dragon Age series , many fans are surprised to hear that Inquisition wasn't the first game that Cullen appeared in. He actually first appeared in Dragon Age: Origins in a small role as one of the templars assigned to execute the Magi if they turn into abominations. Players can attempt to romance him, but he will make some awkward excuses and run away. Additionally, this earlier introduction of Cullen does not paint him as a great character as he will attempt to convince the Warden to kill all the mages during the Harrowing as he is worried they are blood mages. Many players also missed Cullen's return in Dragon Age 2 , where he has since become Knight-Captain and is now second-in-command to Knight-Commander Meredith. Fortunately, Cullen's character in the sequel has been better developed and he is now dedicated to protecting the mages in the circle as much as protecting people from magic. Though still a small role, Cullen is instrumental in helping Hawke to stop Meredith during the main storyline. Cullen has appeared in all three main titles in the series, but interestingly, each time his character was written by an entirely different Bioware writer.
Workaholic : Varric claims that if anyone in the world needs a hobby, it's him.
I love this. You touch so much on what I did, with far less cursing and your absolute beautiful way with words. Cullen is such a tragic story, all of him. Thank you so much for that it's high praise , and for checking it out, Jessi! I agree that Cullen's a really gorgeous and complex character, and I really think DAI is a terrific conclusion to his arc and growth across the trilogy. He actually turns on Meredith without prompting because she wants to murder them because they might be blood mages where did we see that line before?
Cullen Stanton Rutherford born in approximately Dragon [6] [7] is a Fereldan templar. In Dragon Age: Inquisition , Cullen acts as the Inquisitor 's military adviser, and is a romance option for either human or elven female Inquisitors. Born in the Fereldan village of Honnleath , Cullen was the second eldest child of four. He was eight years old when he told his brother and sisters that he would become a Templar. Though his siblings took the proclamation playfully, Cullen's intentions did not waver. He started visiting the local chantry in Honnleath, asking the templars there to teach him anything they could. Honnleath had only a few templars, but they humored the boy and taught him basic sword techniques. From a young age, Cullen had a strong desire to enter a profession that helped people, and he refused to be swayed from the path he had chosen. Despite his siblings' initial teasing, Mia became Cullen's greatest supporter, insisting that the others help Cullen train.

And that always strikes me as the Cullen who chooses to leave the Templars when Cassandra shows up. Emma, this is a terrific point, and a dialogue I've actually never seen before! I so appreciate your noting it here -- and I'm really delighted to hear that there's a little more nuance to Cullen at this early point in his journey as a character.

He's basically still a caterpillar here. One of the best things about Cullen's character design is how plainly haunted he is by what he has survived. View history Talk Oh, Crap! He says that the Harrowing has served them well enough and that it'll be up to the mages if they push the templars to more stringent measures. I've kept and "not" kept you waiting. They will have the option to ask Cullen to state their vows in elvish for the ceremony, to which Cullen agrees. This section contains spoilers for : Witch Hunt. This section contains spoilers for: Dragon Age: Inquisition. However, he still thinks that mages should be checked with safeguards to protect people - including the mages themselves. Pretty lake.
Shy, unsure of himself and haunted by events from his past, Cullen Rutherford remains a powerful force within BioWare's Dragon Age franchise. Originally introduced in Dragon Age: Origins , Cullen was a templar at Kinloch Hold when Uldred and his fellow mages unleashed demons upon the Ferelden Circle of Magi, and he never quite recovered from those events. After being transferred to the Kirkwall Circle of Magi in hopes of a fresh start after the Blight, the things Cullen saw and endured in Kirkwall left a bad taste for templar life in his mouth.
Talking in Your Sleep : Deleted dialogue has Cullen talking about how his first Templar roommate requested a room transfer because "apparently I talk in my sleep. The one time she mentions that she did, it was only due to self-defense. Cannot Spit It Out : While he's strongly infatuated with the female mage and keeps stuttering around her, his occupation forbids him from even thinking about telling her about it. Her parents are technically in charge, but as the heir, Josephine must prove she can manage the affairs of the estate before it is bequeathed to her. Sweet Tooth : According to one sequence of ambient messenger dialogues, Josephine presents him with cookies as a belated birthday gift. Thank you so much for that it's high praise , and for checking it out, Jessi! Good Scars, Evil Scars : He now sports a slim and discreet scar on his upper lip, which only underlines his experience rather than deters from his attractiveness. The closest he gets to paying any attention to it is to acknowledge, when teased by Josephine and Leliana, that his hair does "not entirely" take on its style without help. The epilogue shows them to be truly happy together, living a simple life somewhere in Ferelden with their dog - after paying a "long overdue" visit to his family, who are thrilled to meet his wife. Just look pretty. He was eight years old when he told his brother and sisters that he would become a Templar. Then, unfortunately, we meet up with Cullen again, freshly freed from his cage. When Cassandra Pentaghast comes to Kirkwall on the Divine's orders to assess the situation and potentially recruit Hawke, her respect for Cullen's fortitude prompts her to recruit him into the Inquisition as its military commander. He also reacts badly to allying with mages including the Avvar mage Sigrid in Jaws of Hakkon , arguing that they will inevitably become abominations and accusing you of dooming everyone. This decision has dire consequences which I will go into later.
Idea shaking, I support.
It is not pleasant to me.
In my opinion here someone has gone in cycles
