For the third installment, director Wes Ball entrusted me with the task of designing the menacing character, Lawrence, portrayed by the talented actor Walton Goggins. Upon completing the character design, StudioADI and Weta Digital skillfully employed my work for the makeup effects and digital nose removal. Thomas, Minho, Brenda, and Jorge were able to steal weapons from their kidnappers and interrogated them. After some threatening by Minho, Lawrence said that they could taken a few of them with him to the Right Arm's headquarters, where their questions about the Right Arm's plans could be answered. Thomas and Brenda ended up going to the Right Arm's headquarters with Lawrence in a van which Lawrence drove, running into some Cranks who were trying to break into the van. Luckily, they were able to get away. On the drive over to the hangar, they ran into a large group of Cranks in the middle of the highway. Thomas recognized his friend Newt among them and demanded that Lawrence let him out of the van. Lawrence said that Newt had already too far gone, and when Thomas ran over to Newt and the latter showed aggression, with Lawrence threatening to shoot him. He was the boss of Gally , who he rescued and healed of the spear wound inflicted upon him by Minho.

Most of the post-apocalyptic chaos in The Maze Runner franchise results from the Flare Virus aka VCxb47 , which goes through various stages. To put it simply, the Flare was a disease caused by a virus capable of transforming humans into violent and cannibalistic beings. This virus was created by the Post-Flares Coalition as a means of population control. With most human society bound to fall in a state of disarray after the apocalyptic Solar Flares, the Coalition took it upon themselves to create the Flare Virus to painlessly kill the survivors. But as it turned out, the viral infection was far from painless. The fact that the symptoms play out in multiple stages make the Flare one of the deadliest viruses in popular culture.
