Quick links. I am not a mechanic or internet technical guru so that's why I asked, crane camshaft identification. I believe it might be an old 'Fireball' or 'Commander' series.

Print Thread. I've got an old camshaft of which I'm trying to the specifications to. From what I've read, it seems to be a Crane Cam Core with a Chet Herbert grind but in searching there were two cams with two different specs that used the number so I'm trying to verify the cam information. Please, can someone help me in finding the original cam specs. Also, this cam is specifically for a Big Block Mopar Wedge engine 3 bolt.

All aftermarket and production camshafts use a series of terms and specifications to identify their operating characteristics. These may seem obscure and even perhaps baffling, but in fact these cam specifications lay out a simple way of determining exactly how a particular camshaft will operate in the engine. A camshaft is really a device used to convert rotating motion into linear up and down movement. This is accomplished by use of a cam follower or lifter that starts on the round portion of the eccentric, which is called the base circle.
