To make some sense of Courtney and her motives I have made a theory about her untold backstory. Most people act the way they do because of how they were raised. I believe her mother was a cold, judgmental, workaholic law firm owner who treated Courtney as a project rather than a daughter. And of course Courtney adopted this mentality. And when she failed her mother stuck it to her big time. I imagine her father being even worse of workaholic and was almost never around. He showered Courtney with gifts to make up for it. Courtney would most likely have a nanny taking care of her up until she is She joined Total Drama to win the competition and use the money for college purposes as well as an impressive mention on her future resume. The inevitable happened and she and Duncan hooked up. It was the start of something great. Their differences opened doors to new experiences and the problems they saw in each other as well as the problems they saw in themselves. Ultimately they get divorced most likely happening after the TDI finale and the TDI special leaving Courtney flabbergasted, hurt, and angry. Ironically, it's the fact that she places such little value on the well-being of her teammates that she ultimately screws herself over in the game, as her aggressive attitude and selfishness inevitably leads to her fellow competitors rallying against her every time victory seems within reach. Unfortunately, even after they finally buried the hatchet she still tries to pull the rug out from Gwen when it is revealed she doesn't intend to take her to the finale as they promised; Gwen is quick to return this sentiment to her and Courtney is unable to talk her way out of elimination.
