Holding down the Aim button will activate a scanner HUD to view objects. Centering on an object with the Aim button and then holding down the Fire button will scan that object. While in "Scanner Mode" only a melee weapon can be used for combat.

I don't know what is the difference between both of them other that the synthesis scanner gives standing points for simaris. Both scanners function the same for scanning, with simaris giving standing. The only disadvantage to the simaris scanner is that they're a bit more expensive, but that's mitigated with the infinite use widget. The only use for the regular scanner once you have that is searching for scannables i. Just remember to get one of the offerings for 50k standing that makes them synthesis infinite. So you dont keep spending credits in them. Also of note is that both scanners, once you get the infinite widget, works with Helios's scanning precept.
