Last month on the 24th May, indoor restaurants were finally able to open their doors after being closed since Christmas. One of the restaurants that caught our eye was Chuck and Blade Burgers : a Kent-based burger restaurant that opened on Sun Street back in April. We made it to Chuck and Blade on a sunny Thursday after a trip to the local Curzon cinema to see Cruella. The first thing I noticed when we stepped inside was how popular the restaurant was for early on a Thursday. Booking for such an early time we were expecting to be one of very few parties dining, but this was not the case at all. The restaurant decor immediately stood out to us with its black painted walls and dark wood tables. There were candle-like ornaments dotted on each of the tables helping to create a cosy, date-like atmosphere. Chuck and Blade opts for the simplistic menu approach, where you pay for individual items instead of plates or platters. They serve various burgers, fries, shakes and poutine, which you can pick and choose between. When our burgers arrived we were so impressed with the quality. The combination of flavours and well-cooked meat instantly put Chuck and Blade on the Canterbury culinary map for us. The skin-on fries were tasty too, which left us both very content with our main courses.

Our waitress Rachel was excellent and couldn't do more for us. That was one positive. La Torretta.

The drive to Rochester was made worth it by a delightful Burger. Would I head back there again? The shine was impeccable and it held particularly well against the candied moisture of the bacon, the Sweet Bacon Jam and not to mention the Signature Burger Sauce. The texture of the bun was perfect. This is an area I have had a few burgers fall down lately so I was pleasantly surprised to be served a bun that could hold together but was not dense. Having an open plan kitchen, Chuck and Blade are obviously confident in their cook and I watched as the bun was steamed with an injection of water after the stack.

First time ordering tonight after missing out on so many occasions. I had the cheeky Greek burger with halloumi with skin on fries and lotus biscoff milkshake. Absolutley delicious. App was simple to use. We went to Chuck and Blade this afternoon and I can't speak highly enough of the service.

There was lots to choose from on the menu including vegetarian options. This is an area I have had a few burgers fall down lately so I was pleasantly surprised to be served a bun that could hold together but was not dense. Having watched the patties be made on the grill I think that the moisture is lost in the meat because they are literally smashed so hard that the separation of the meat allows for so much heat to get into the middle. They serve various burgers, fries, shakes and poutine, which you can pick and choose between. We had a lovely family meal here before heading home after a fun afternoon visiting Rochester. Left feeling very full and very welcome at the new store.

I have given a score of 18 as I found myself literally wiping the fallen patty on the remaining juice from the condiment and eating miniature burgers with my thumb and fingertip. The flavour profiles are right, the stack is brilliant, presentation and service is spot on, it is just the patty which needs serious attention in my opinion. It is a complicated score because the patty, for me, is a probably the most crucial component of a good burger.
