First things first, please make sure to measure the height and width of your artwork. Next, try to sketch out your plans to keep track of measurements and the concept you have for the project. Stain of choice - I used Special Walnut. Wood glue. Brad nailer - small nail gun. Miter saw. Sandpaper sponge - I ultimately went with a sandpaper sponge. As your first official cut, trim off a piece at a horizontal degree angle - trust me, I was nervous, too, about the first cut! But, this makes establishing the rest of your cuts a bit easier; and thankfully the saw has a setting that cuts degree angles - so less work and worry! Now that you have this first piece cut, mark your measurements on what will be the inner portion of your frame.

Rip That Wood My plans called for wood at a different width than what we found at the store so my dad trimmed both the length and width of the planks on his table saw. It worked great. They left behind a lot of sticky residue and I tried a few different methods to remove it. We added more nails than is necessary if you allow for proper dry time on your wood glue. We hung the picture wire on the inside edge of the frame backing pieces. I picked up golden oak wood filler that matched my frame perfectly. All together my canvas thickness 1. Adding a non-yellowing, acrylic coating will protect your frame from moisture and make it easier to clean. Thankfully, DIY projects for me are self-care - so, two birds, one stone!
