But, with intelligence Charlie is confronted with hidden and often painful memories, an awareness of true human behavior and a struggle with the desire to rid himself of a feeling of loneliness. A book that everyone should read.

He catches Algernon and flees back to New York with Algernon, intent on getting his own apartment, where the scientists cannot find him. Inspired by real life Keyes got the idea through a mixture of personal issues with his parents and working with students with special needs.
