The art of painting our own bodies has been used to celebrate, go to war, hunt, seduce, and more. Body painting is an incredibly versatile art form that ranges from using decorative body paints to create designs on our bodies, to more modern body art forms like tattoos. We will use this blog post to talk about the different forms of body paint and answer some common questions regarding this art form. Whenever I paint someone I am aware of my small place in this vast tradition, one more human seeking to understand how our art can transform us. The role of art as an integral component within the social and spiritual life of traditional communities was an inspiration for these artists in their effort to reinvigorate the transformative power of art.
