In this Somerset town known for indie shops, a makeover of a former grocery has fabulous French food and fuss-free rooms. Winding cobbled streets lead towards the river, flanked by old stone buildings or pastel-painted antique shops — no chain stores in sight. Step inside and all signs of English market town disappear: Bistro Lotte is a decidedly French affair. Owner Charlotte Lotte Evans greets me. The bistro opened last spring in what used to be a car-parts shop following the close of the grocery , now reimagined with high ceilings, panelled walls and scrubbed wooden tables bearing rose-filled vases. The building dates from and the renovation revealed an array of original features, from stained-glass windows to ornate Minton tiles. Above the restaurant, the Town House has six guestrooms over two floors — and I head up to drop my bag before joining the diners.
With genuine warmth and enthusiasm for our trade, we do our utmost to ensure that your visit is a truly delightful experience. We are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner serving fabulous classic French cuisine. Our beautiful restaurant is set in an Edwardian town house with high ceilings, paneled walls and many original features giving it great character. Come and enjoy the relaxed and friendly atmosphere and delicious French food. From freshly baked sourdough, croissants and continental breakfasts, to steak frites, crepes and galettes, boeuf bourguignon and bouillabaisse. All our food is bursting with flavour, cooked with passion and ingredients sourced locally whenever possible. We also have a selection of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free dishes. We are open for breakfast, coffee and lunch Monday to Sunday. And open for dinner Monday evening to Saturday evening.

The money stayed in my purse then all chances of eating and drinking out were we thought impossible late March duw to lockdown. I saw on the Frome Facebook pages that Bistro Lotte The menu was delightful. He had such a large plate of the meat, frites and salad that he needed 2 plates. I had Lamb fillets in a wild mushroom and red wine sauce, green vegetables and dauphinois potatoes. A glass of wine at home ensures a lovely evening, We are so lucky living in Frome and having this wonderful French Bistro on our doorstep. My girlfriend and I were staying at the Talbot Inn, Mells at the weekend and having read good reviews decided to book Bistro Lotte for supper on Friday night.
