Banjo-Tooie is a platform video game developed by Rare and originally released for the Nintendo 64 console in It is the second game in the Banjo-Kazooie series and the sequel to Banjo-Kazooie. The game follows the returning protagonists Banjo and Kazooie as they attempt to stop the plans of the witch Gruntilda and two of her sisters, who intend to vaporise the inhabitants of the game's island setting. The game features worlds significantly larger than those of its predecessor, requiring the player to complete challenges such as solving puzzles , jumping over obstacles, collecting items, and defeating opponents. It also includes a multiplayer mode in which up to four players can compete in several minigames repurposed from the main campaign.

Meanwhile, Banjo, Kazooie, Bottles , and Mumbo Jumbo are playing poker together at Banjo's house, with Kazooie constantly cheating, such as claiming Grunty's return so that she could steal some poker chips. Suddenly, Spiral Mountain experiences tremors like that of an earthquake, which disrupts Banjo and friends' game. The tremors were caused by a massive digging machine called the Hag 1 , piloted by Grunty's sisters, Mingella and Blobbelda , who have come to rescue their sister. After the quake, Banjo says someone should go investigate. Kazooie claims to be too scared, so Mumbo bravely decides to go.

The challenging breadth of the adventure, the richly detailed graphics, varied gameplay, killer sound, and multiplayer mode all fuse into one amazingly fun experience. Those who bought Banjo-Kazooie for their kids a couple of years ago found out quickly that Rare's 3D platformers are not child's play. Those who stuck with B-K all the way to Grunty's game show and the unveiling of the Jinjonator at the end of B-K are few and far between. But those who did are going to get off on this sequel big-time. Banjo-Tooie picks up right where Banjo-Kazooie left off. Gruntilda is still stuck under the boulder you planted on her, but her sisters soon show up and free the hag. In retribution, Grunty dusts Banjo's buddy Bottles with a devastating spell. Predictably, Banjo and Kazooie set off to restore the life of their pal Bottles and bring down the wretched Gruntilda once again.
