Baldurs gate fighter/mage

As a fighter, the character benefits from high Hit Dice , low THAC0 , multiple attacks per round, advanced weapon proficiencies , and access to all kinds of weapon, armor, and shields. This enables the character to act as a frontline melee character, though it will never be as good as a pure fighter in that respect. As a mage, the character has access to higher lore and arcane spells, although access to high level spells is only possible at the end of Baldur's Gate II. This means the player will require a thorough knowledge of the tactical applications of their spells if they are to act in that capacity. Also, the player should keep in mind that they are unable to cast spells while wearing any armor with few exceptions , which can conflict with the fighter's preferred role. As a unique downside, they cannot ever reach level 9 spell slots without modding the game to remove the 8,, experience cap, and therefore cannot take most of the High-Level Class Abilities of the mage class. As a thief, the character has access to higher lore, thieving abilities and backstabbing.

But it seems that the 2nd best is often the most up for debate - and it's this debate that interests me most : EDIT: Guys - I think people are overanalyzing this WAY too much. A guy or gal who can wield axes and two-handed swords like Conan and cast spells. Don't overthink and overanalyze ;P. Last edited by gregorsamsa ; 25 Apr, pm. Showing 1 - 15 of 71 comments. And some very tough ones in Durlag's Tower, fwiw. Again, critical for attempting to interrupt on casters.

And if you're playing with companions NPCs or self-created ones , it doesn't matter much anyway. In my opinion it is more interesting to play real specialists. Single classes you can use to full potential because they are backed up by a party.

When you say single weapon style do you mean that you don't use a shield? By the time you use Kundane you don't really need to hit anything with it so maybe you don't really need any proficiency in short swords? JGP - don't you think the longbow is useful early on in bg1? You make a good point that there are good longswords along the way that you can take advantage of in bg2. I'm not sure two pips in shortswords is worth it. Having blunt and sharp would be nice, so maybe long swords and flails is the way to go.

This makes Invisibility , Improved Invisibility , and especially Mislead effective tools. For what it's worth, I for one think Grandmastery is overrated, especially when you're gaining proficiencies only at the rate of a Mage and every one is precious. Warrick View Profile View Posts. Any questions please drop me an email. She will turn into a mage form twice make sure during these situations to cast a time stop not to attack her but to cast true sight, breach and ruby rays. If you don't want to go Axes or Daggers and are more or less assured you will stick with melee all of the time, then a blunt weapon is the best choice. It will be more a subjective satisfaction as the impact on the game will be far from game breaking playing with full party, with small ones or soloing you reach the cap well before so you can benefit from the 2nd GM for a relevant part of ToB. I often choose half-elves as PC rather than an elf because of their bigger stature. Elves have such a tiny avatar, it doesn't befit my idea of a mighty bhaalspawn. On the other end of the spectrum I find the human avatar far too bulky-looking for my liking if I choose to play as a mage or rogue especially human bards look ugly , so that's another reason to pick half-elves.

But in BG2 its immunities are a huge, welcome gift for a large number of difficult fights. Philosopher Topic Creator 10 years ago 5. The big thing is that you will either have to gain a lot of levels in fighter to get enough pips for grandmastery in both, or settle for not having grandmastery. Therefore it is impractical to cast Simulacrum then Spirit Armor or stone skin as you will need the Simulacrum to cast other dire spells. Then I'll level up to mage level 5 normally, then I'll sit there until I can go all the way to level 10 late SoD - obviously this part will be a pain in the ass and I'll just have to sit in the back and spam wands while the party does the heavy lifting; having no Stoneskin will make SoD especially tricky. Fireshield Red and Fireshield Blue are also effective at increasing damage output as the character wades into melee battles often. In the game there is also the lev,2 Strength spell that lasts 1 turn level ok in SCS can be easily dispelled. At what point should I add my third pip into two weapon fighting? Seriously, if you haven't experienced zero attack speed make a dagger protagonist or try Jaheira or Shar-Teel with this thing. In a group run this can be a great issue, but also in a solo run can be annoyng. Upon accepting one, they will be unable to accept another.
