Forum: Introduce Yourself. In universe… … normal levels form the framework of the Backrooms, and vary greatly in size, danger, and habitability. Typical levels—for whatever value of "typical" can be expected from the Backrooms—tend to be infinite in size though "bounded" levels are not unheard of , and often provoke a feeling of uncanny familiarity to those happening upon them. The laws of physics and nature as we know them cannot be relied on in the depths of the Backrooms; nevertheless, some of the more hospitable and stable levels are home to thriving communities, and some inhabitants have managed to survive in even the most dangerous levels. Levels often contain sub-levels ; levels that are related to their parent level, but are still their own distinct level. They may also contain rooms ; locations that are too small to be considered their own level. Usually, they are places in an existing level, but that is not always the case. Rooms and sub-levels are both often referred to as sub-layers. Entrances and exits to each level are catalogued to the best of our ability, as making a hasty retreat is often necessary. An important tip to remember is that levels are occasionally prone to instability; keeping this in mind, documentation of any level is subject to change without warning.

There are literally thousands of levels to the Backrooms, but very little is known about most of them. Instead I will just focus on the better-known levels, about which more information and photos exists. A massive warehouse with concrete floors and walls, exposed rebar, dim fluorescent lights placed on the walls and a low-hanging fog with no discernible source. A set of long, straight maintenance tunnels accompanied by pipes and vents on the walls, spanning large distances, with turns and intersections being incredibly rare. An expansive of narrow corridors and electrical machinery, similar to Level 2, but better maintained and with more electrical machinery. Many believe that the whole Backrooms is powered by Level 3.
Some people on the internet have created more ideas about the Backrooms to add levels and "entities" living in them. Some sources believe the Backrooms to have been the beginning of the internet's aesthetic of liminal spaces , [4] which shows usually busy areas as unnaturally empty. The Backrooms concept has since been expanded by internet users. Some have created different sections of the Backrooms called levels. There are thousands of levels found within fan-made Wikis of the Backrooms, featuring different pictures and safety classes in a format influenced by the SCP wiki. One canon is that there are three distinct levels. There are also many different levels, including Level! Run For Your Life! This video caused the Backrooms to become popular again. In February , A24 announced that they will be working on a movie about the Backrooms.

Forum: Introduce Yourself. It was easy, really. You just have to look at things objectively, see what you don't need anymore, and trim out the fat. A modern-day image of Level 2, taken by the late Overseer-C. Whilst primary source Macchina imagery predates this image, this one is one of the most well known. Level 2, once regarded as being one of the main levels of The Backrooms, is an infinite array of complex yet Euclidian maintenance tunnels that range in size, and once had a variety of uses. Level 2's physical layout, whilst complicated, has certain commonalities in its design which allows it to be mapped and understood. The tunnels themselves, despite following no strict flow on how they are structured, all contort at strictly 45 degree angles, and the rough length of hallways has always measured to approximate multiples of 5 when measuring in the metric system. The various tunnels also are usually rather tight and narrow, either because of the original dimensions of the tunnels which sometimes barely fit those of larger builds from shoulder-to-shoulder , or by the machinery, wiring, or other industrial equipment strung up along the walls and ceilings. The walls are built of withered, dirtied concrete, or even bricks in certain areas, the latter of which are usually in muddy brown or black hues.
