One of the joys of Nintendo's Switch is how it marries the company's home console heritage with its equally prestigious handheld line. Ask anybody over the age of 30 to name a handheld system and "Game Boy" will likely still be the first answer; the name became synonymous with portable gaming just as home consoles were routinely referred to as "Nintendos" back in the day. Younger generations, though, are more likely to name the unlikely upstart that stole Game Boy's portable crown and permanently ousted that mighty brand name from Nintendo's lineup: Nintendo DS. It's strange to think back to a time when the Nintendo DS — that odd-looking folding system — was positioned as a 'third pillar' alongside GameCube and Game Boy Advance. That was until it promptly slayed the Boy king and took his throne. The original prototype and even the initial 'Phat' version of the hardware certainly didn't look like much of a threat. The early reveal model Reggie pulled from his pocket looked undeniably clunky, especially up against the sleek elegance of Sony's PSP. There was a nervousness from fans that Sony's arrival on the handheld market was the death knell to Nintendo's dominance in the same way it had been with the home console market nearly a decade earlier.

This handheld gaming console introduced dual screens, most notably the DS touchscreen, wireless connectivity, and a built-in microphone, all of which were groundbreaking in their time. Our ranked lists are created by researching and rounding up information from the most reputable web sources. When it comes to awesome games, Rhythm Heaven ranks up there, and it starts off our list because of just how addicting it was. This rhythm game allowed players to tap, flick, and slide their styluses to match the beat of the music. With levels that could extend both horizontally and vertically, this side-scrolling game gave players levels of intense shooting and melee combat gameplay. However, what made this game truly stand out was its use of Sound Load technology, which enabled players to transfer data to other Nintendo DS systems using the microphone function. At the time of its release, this function instantly made it stand out from all the rest as one of the best DS games.

Meteos DS A tile-matching game from producer Tetsuya Mizuguchi, the developer behind such memorising titles as Rez , Lumines and, more recently, Tetris Effect , Meteos was an early puzzle hit in the life of the DS and a is good enough to stand proudly in the company of the very best in the genre. Aug 12, Golden Sun: Dark Dawn DS Golden Sun: Dark Dawn is certainly an enjoyable and engaging RPG adventure, but you can't help but wish the developer had been a little more ambitious, especially considering the seven-year wait. Wild World took everything that was great about the GameCube game and introduced online aspects to make visiting the villages of friends and family even easier. Super innovative and very fun throughout. The NDS is no doubt the defining console of my childhood, and undoubtedly many others. That top 10 surprised me a little, I think I'll check the games I didn't play. Dragon Quest is a beloved series, and fans consider Hand of the Heavenly Bride one of the best entries. I think 50 is the minimum to appear in the list? It tasks players with saving the universe from the planet Meteo and its planet-annihilating meteos. Mass Attack introduced the notion of controlling a squad of Kirbys that collectively had to work towards common goals while avoiding damage. However, on the Nintendo DS, there is just one game that carries his name: Meteos. Aesthetically the games are a big improvement over Diamond and Pearl and there are numerous new sidequests and cool new mini-games.
The Nintendo DS is a console that cropped up absolutely everywhere and was owned by pretty much everyone. Business types with briefcases, mums and dads waiting for school to finish, kids in classrooms; everyone had or has one somewhere, and many people still play them to this day!

People like me, I presume, means people who upvote Zelda because Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. It's easily to me the best system around. The tactics of leading the Orange Star Army were just as gripping as ever, too, and made even more complex with new dual-screened missions. Nintendo wanted the system to be appealing to players outside of traditional circles, and as a result the library spans over games. I know both it and Phantom Hourglass are weaker Zelda games, but I expected either one or both of them to show up. Played with the DS held vertically, Hotel Dusk feels like a virtual book where you read engaging dialogue but can use your stylus to traverse the titular hotel and solve numerous clever puzzles. No fire emblem shadow dragon that was a great entry in the series. Thanks for the recommendation!
