When the Sully family arrived at the Awa'atlu village seeking refuge, Lo'ak sees Tsireya emerge out of the water. Her father, Tonowari, tasks Tsireya teach the Sully children their way of life. She also taught them to ride the ilu and how to breathe deeply before a dive. However Lo'ak had difficulty controlling his heart rate during practice because of Tsireya's presence. Seeing Lo'ak was struggling the most, Reya have him private lessons on underwater diving. She was also proud of him for being able to cast a fishing net. Later, Tsireya heard Lo'ak talk about Tulkan who saved him when Aonung abandoned Lo'ak at the Three Brothers to get back at him for punching him in the face while Lo'ak was defending his sister, Kiri. Tsireya realized he was talking about Payakan, an exiled, male tulkun for an alleged murder. However, Lo'ak refused to believe this. When an alarm went off in the clan, Tsireya told the Sully family that the tulkun had returned. Riding on an ilu with Lo'ak, Tsireya later confessed with her spirit sister that she met a boy. Later on, Lo'ak visits the exiled Tulkan and learns that he didn't kill his fellow Tulkans.
