The Australia men's national soccer team represents Australia in international men's soccer. In this confederation, Australia won the OFC Nations Cup four times between and , and dominated many World Cup qualification campaigns during earlier rounds. The team won 31—0 against American Samoa in World Cup qualification, achieving the world record for the largest victory in a senior international match. Despite this, the team only managed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup twice in 11 attempts while in this confederation. By winning this competition, Australia became the only team in the world to have won two different confederation cups. Australia has made appearances in the World Cup knockout stages twice, having progressed to this stage in and The team additionally represented Australia at the now-defunct FIFA Confederations Cup four times, winning a silver and bronze medal in and respectively.

The team's official nickname is "the Matildas " from the Australian folk song " Waltzing Matilda " ; they were known as the "Female Socceroos " before This team was officially recognised in May , with all 16 members of the squad officially awarded caps. It's a city that embraces the old and the new, and acts as a meeting-point for people who have travelled many long, winding roads to get there. In among the fitness sessions and tactics discussions, the main purpose of the camp was to figure out one simple thing: who did the Socceroos want to be? A new chapter of their story was about to begin, and Arnold wanted his players holding the pen. Over the course of the Turkey camp, this eclectic mix of young and old Socceroos got to know each other, sharing their own stories and their own paths to get to where they were.
