A Cardiff surgeon has won the latest series of The Great British Sewing Bee and everyone is saying the same thing about her "incredible" skills, asma sewing bee. After finally escaping Iraq, aged 14, Asmaa and her family moved to Durham where her father was working as a scientist. At 18, she moved to Cardiff to study medicine, where she is now a consultant breast surgeon at a cancer centre. Asmaa lives with her husband and two children. Her wardrobe is mostly self-made as she likes to create brightly coloured modesty clothing to match her designer shoes — her one indulgence to herself. She also specialises in making underwear, creating sets to coordinate with her outfits, and she is even known to have made post-op bras for her breast cancer patients.

Her two-in-one reveal dress started off as a flattering blue number then used a hook system to reveal an elegant green ball gown — stunning! That final gown was spectacular! I'm not sure I've ever seen anything quite so special on Sewing Bee. Watching it tonight brought back all the memories and it was as if I was reliving the moment in the Sewing Room hearing my name announced. It feels unreal, exciting and wonderful, and very emotional.

Specialising in making lingerie, the triumphant Asmaa plans to channel her creativity for good by making a range of bras for mastectomy patients. Asmaa's full-time job is as a consultant breast surgeon in Cardiff but her sewing hobby means she is already known for making post-op bras for her patients. Her intricate and colourful creations won her Britain's Best Amateur Sewer of on Wednesday after 'spellbinding' the judges and host, Sarah Pascoe.

After leaving war-torn Iraq aged 14, she and her family moved to Durham in England where her father was working as a scientist. Aged 18, she moved to the Welsh capital to study medicine, and decided to make Cardiff her home with her husband and two children.
