An apartment is a multi-purpose residential lot , allowing multiple households to reside in the same building. Apartments are arguably a semi-communal residential lot. In The Sims 2: University and The Sims 2: Bon Voyage , dormitories and hotels serve a similar purpose, but neither of these enable multiple households to stay at the same lot simultaneously. Neither one allows the player to have multiple households residing on the same lot. A penthouse allows Sims to live in a designated space within a shell building, while an apartment merely allows Sims to have unselectable roommates. In The Sims 4 , apartments come in two varieties: in the worlds of San Myshuno from The Sims 4: City Living and Evergreen Harbor from The Sims 4: Eco Lifestyle apartments are similar to The Sims 3: Late Night apartments in that they experience Sims in the hallway and each apartment is considered a separate lot and thus cannot enter another apartment without a loading screen even though unlike Late Night, multiple apartments can be in the same building. If it is dim, then it has not been occupied, or all playable households living there are saved on a vacation or an owned community lot. Apartment buildings can be placed in the base neighborhood, downtowns , and business districts , but cannot be placed or made in colleges or vacation destinations. Premade apartments can be found in the Lots and Houses bin under the specialty lots tab. The players can see the price range of an apartment building by clicking on it in the neighborhood view.
