It is good against cavalry. The Camel Rider has an attack of 15 against cavalry before armor , which is notably high for a Castle Age unit. Camel units are the second fastest land unit type in Age of Empires II , only superseded by light cavalry. Cavalry can more easily escape from Pikemen than they can from Camel Riders because of their speed, meaning that whilst Pikemen can often just scare cavalry away, Camel Riders can pursue them and finish them off. Using Camel Riders against civilizations that revolve around mounted units, such as Berbers , Franks , Mongols , Persians , and Saracens often lands great results. Camel Riders are best used only against melee cavalry or to ambush groups of mounted archers. Although Spearmen and Skirmishers can deal heavy damage to mounted archers, only Camel Riders can force a fight with them.
And very few games have been played for such a long time as Age of Empires II, arguably the most beloved installment in the series. With the HD version came several new civilizations to control and develop into bustling empires, complicating the ever-controversial question of which civilization is the best. Some may do better on certain maps, some benefit from 1v1 settings or are good in team games, and the list of variables goes on making it hard to make a simple ranking. The first entry in our list happens to be the Britons, a classic civilization with a focus on archery for their military strategies. Their archery ranges produce units considerably faster than the average civilization, and their archers in general have a longer range. Their unique unit is the Longbowman which can out-range virtually every other unit in the game as well as towers and castles once fully upgraded. Their villagers gather food faster from sheep, and their Town Centers are cheaper than usual, which helps their economy and gives them the possibility of expanding in the mid-game much faster. Their Camel Archer unit is among the best ranged mounted units as well, with excellent strength and accuracy, and it benefits from the Maghrabi Camels tech which grants Berber camel units a regenerative ability. Their early game is excellent thanks to their superior scout, the Eagle Warrior , and they can get to work faster thanks to an extra starting villager.

Making the Imperial Camel available like Halbdiers or Paladin is really a no brainer. Also, I did adress this part as well when I pointed out that many other civs need a special upgrade to make their best unit stand out. Mongols had neither, since the Mangudai was lackluster in castle age, having 10 frame delay just like the standard Cavalry Archer, making it much harder to micro. The comparison of mangudai and camel arch in castle isn't really important for overall Arina gameplay. Not only that, but Mongols have a superior economy bonus. The Camel Rider line, with the Camel Rider on the left. I agree that they suck. They're meant to be a sort of niche extra counter unit. Reactions: streetpete , OrnLu and nimanoe. There is no argument that balance changes would have to be made to make imperial camels more common, but since Indians need a major revamp anyway the bonus for shore fish is too strong, and the lack of Battle Elephants is an oversight that must be fixed , that can all be part of the same push.
