For a boy coming of age and discovering a magical self-reliance and new powers for every occasion, the future is in the cards, in this fantasy adventure. Arthur lives with his father, a fallen but proud former noble, in Border Village 49, along with the other good folks condemned to toil in service to the Baron. But Arthur has an edge: a stolen heart card that secretly fell into his possession, thanks to a dragon. Invaluable, too, to a young man of spellcasting ambitions. Mile by dusty mile, he gains new skills and learns more about his increasing capabilities. But when he meets Horatio, his sharp-tongued new best friend and a spell card collector himself, Arthur discovers the greater powers to come by building on the Legendary card hidden close to his heart. Amidst danger, rescue, and friendships with both humans and those creatures of the more leathery variety, Arthur awakens to a newfound confidence. The first volume of the hit progression fantasy series, featuring a unique card-based magic system, now available for the first time!

It was on the YA side of things with the MC being 12 years old for most of it and ended up when he was Turns out, all the adults in the village are on a death penalty. I had doubts after reading the description and put off reading it, but I'm glad I finally did. William Howe. Search review text. It ended up being one of my favorites of the year. Personally, I wish the author had put in the extra effort to make the magic system more unique. He's twelve. I doubt anything great will come of it, but it has the right foundation for a fun, uncomplicated progression-fantasy story. Book one Wow! Nobody else in the village has even a common one. In the end, I would say All the Skills is a page-turning fest. This is a great book I really enjoyed it. This one had the same feel as Mark of the Fool book. Good Worldbuilding.

I don't know. Can't find what you're looking for? He isn't going to be disrupting anything. However, when he stumbles upon a dragon attacking a noble caravan the dragon bestows upon him a legendary card. And for some reason, his father who's supposed to be great didn't teach him anything at all about the world or how to do anything. It gave me everything I ask for in a gamelit, and it's even from a new author. In addition to the MC, I thought all the characters were written well. The card system is solid and satisfying in equal measures, just underused in this first run out. A lot. I didn't know what a deck building litrpg entailed. This could have easily been a more pure-fantasy magic system. When Arthur this card, Master of Skills, he soon starts learning all the skills! Let me see if I can explain why this is so hard for me.
