Air new zealand premium economy spaceseat
Welcome to Premium Economy.
As I'm a huge fan of the Air New Zealand Premium Economy Spaceseat I wanted to experience what I thought could have been my final flight in one as the Spaceseat is now being replaced as part of the ER fleet refubishment that began in February. The Spaceseat configuration is a configuration. Middle seats and outer seats are both different, with the inner seats aimed at couples traveling together, and the other seats for individuals. I much prefer the inner seats due to the centre armrest that can be lifted up meaning I sleep incredibly well. Unlike some airlines who simply pitch Premium Economy as marginally enhanced Economy offering, Air New Zealand's offering is far closer to Business than Economy. The Spaceseat is either loved or hated, and this has no doubt played a part in Air New Zealand deciding to replace it with a more conventional business class style recliner seat during the refit - I'm sure the fact they're going to fit 10 more seats into the same cabin has nothing to do with the decision making process! Present on the seat was a pillow, blanket, water bottle, amenity kit and noise cancelling headphones.

Kindly note this review is of the former Premium Economy Spaceseat which was found on select Air New Zealand aircraft. The seat is no longer in operation. I do miss these seats! I flew to and from Los Angeles with Air New Zealand; whom now happen to be one of my favourite airlines. To date I have experienced their Economy and Economy SkyCouch products, now I would like to share my experience of their Premium Economy cabin with you from the moment I boarded the aircraft in LA to the moment I arrived at the gate in London. To my delight there was not a soul in sight therefore I proceeded straight to the available agent at the desk who was very friendly and chatty too. Once she had checked all my documents, issued my boarding pass and put the very bright orange priority bag-tag on my suitcase she wished me a great flight and I dropped off my suitcase at the the TSA drop-off point and then headed on up the stairs and through security. Once I was through the departure lounge it was time to grab a bite to eat and look in the shops before the 10 and a half hour or so flight to London. The terminal features more than , square feet of retail and dining spaces and the Air New Zealand managed Star Alliance Lounge features an open-air terrace that overlooks the runway. How cool is that!? After grabbing a bite to eat from one of the restaurants I thought it would be rude not to check out the shops within the terminal and ended up buying a couple of bits and pieces for family and friends. I then headed over to the gate and took advantage of the complimentary wi-fi to send off a few e-mails and Skype home before the priority-boarding announcement was made. The initial boarding process began approximately 45 minutes prior to our scheduled departure time of PDT; commencing with those with young children or whom need assistance, followed by the passengers travelling in the Business Premier and then the Premium Economy and Economy cabins.
The focus point is the longest flight of the trip โ with a flight time of around 14 hours from Auckland to Chicago. After take-off crew delivered a hot towel and delivered drinks
Living it up in Premium Economy on the way to Melbourne. I get a lot of questions about travelling as a person of size, more specifically flying while fat. One of the most common concerns seems to be about fitting in aeroplane seats, so when I flew to Melbourne last year I decided to purchase premium economy seats to see how they compared to economy seats. One thing I learned is that not all Premium Economy flights are created equal. I flew with Air New Zealand on my flights to and from Melbourne, but my experiences were very very different.
Fifth-freedom routes -- routes operated by an airline between two foreign countries as a part of services connecting the airline's own country -- mean you can fly some airlines on unexpected routes. I was waiting for award availability to open up for another review flight as well as my passport to be returned after a visa application , so we ended up not booking this flight until two days before departure. Travelling to New Zealand is no picnic for us Europeans. For us, the country is at the end of the world and so even the fastest flight connection takes around 24 hours. It is all the more important on such a long journey not to arrive at your destination completely exhausted. Two long-haul flights with the flag carrier of the Kiwis were also part of the small round-the-world trip. Here are a few glimpses of their in-flight product. The focus point is the longest flight of the trip โ with a flight time of around 14 hours from Auckland to Chicago. But first the flight data of this segment:. Since booking, almost all flights of the original booking had been cancelled or postponed. A few involuntary rebookings later, the above routing became:. The rebookings were annoying, but at least there were a few additional segments and a hour stop in Seoul.

The other main option of hotcakes also looked delicious. Premium Economy Meal service on was excellent. In fact, the Spaceseat was as comfortable as the business class seats of many airlines on which we have flown. Once your bowls are cleared away the warmed croissants are served straight from the oven and are very tasty indeed, plus the size is rather cute too. There was no wine list. I've got quite a sweet tooth and love a bit of chocolate now and then, but banana and chocolate together is like a marriage made in heaven. A nice self-serve bar is available for mixed drinks and there is a nice selection of New Zealand wines, including sparkling wine. The bulkhead here has tons of legroom, but you give up underseat storage for your smaller bags. Noise-cancelling headphones are typically reserved for Business Class passengers on other airlines, but Air New Zealand provides them for Premium Economy guests. Up first was prosciutto with radicchio, asparagus, grilled artichokes and blue cheese. For the flight Tokyo โ Auckland, there would be zero points in this aspect, because there was simply no Wi-Fi. Something we have not seen in any lounge before visiting Koru Lounge is a Barrista who is on duty during certain hours during the day. This wasn't.

Overall, the catering in the Air NZ premium eco deserves great praise. Once I reached my aisle seat, 24B, and I had put my things away and was seated; the two Premium flight attendants on my flight introduced themselves. The cabin is separated from economy class by a partition wall. Around about an hour and a three quarters before our arrival the lights were turned on and the crew passed through the cabin with hot towels prior to beginning the breakfast service. Both were surprisingly good. The two seats on the fuselage sides of the cabin are angled toward the fuselage, while in the center section, one seat is angled to the left and the other angled to the right. Boarding Boarding started 35 minutes late, with no reason given. Looking around the cabin most people seemed to give up waiting for their main and proceeded to eat their desert first. It was delicious! This starts with your own check-in area and is expressed on board with the food in business class quality. There are also various series and five games including Angry Birds. The Breakfast Service Around about an hour and a three quarters before our arrival the lights were turned on and the crew passed through the cabin with hot towels prior to beginning the breakfast service.
