You may have heard of AC and DC but maybe never quite understood the difference between them, or why we sometimes use one and sometimes the other. All is revealed in this page. This page explains the difference between AC and DC and why it matters. An electric current consists of a flow of electrical charge around a closed path or "circuit" and so has a definite direction. A battery or a solar cell creates a positive charge at one terminal and a negative charge at the other. This amounts to a certain voltage or electrical pressure which is more or less constant until the battery runs down or the sun goes in. This is called Direct Current, or simply DC, since the direction is unchanging. DC is what nearly all electronic equipment needs internally to operate; whether you're trying to play a CD or browse the Internet on your computer, the electronics needs a constant and unvarying source of power in order to do its job. Imagine trying to drive a car if the engine kept cutting out every few yards! By contrast, mains electricity reverses direction times per second, two reversals making a complete cycle and bringing you back to where you started. This is called Alternating Current, or AC, since the direction continually alternates between one direction and the other. The figure shows a graph of the voltage against time for 3 cycles, from which you can see that it's constantly varying like the motion of a pendulum.

On 7 March , the band announced that the final ten dates of the second North American leg of the tour would be rescheduled as Johnson's doctors had ordered him to stop touring immediately: he risked complete deafness if he persisted. The ten cancelled dates were to be rescheduled, "likely with a guest vocalist" later in the year, leaving Johnson's future in touring with the group uncertain. Losing Malcolm, the thing with [Rudd] and now with [Johnson], it's a changed animal.

In , the Young family migrated to Sydney, Australia, where music would make its mark on the brothers. Taking a cue and encouragement from their older brother's musical success, Angus and Malcolm Young formed their own rock 'n' roll combo and premiered their inimitable interlocking guitar sound on December 31, at a New Year's Eve gig at Sydney's Chequers Club. In November of that year, the band went to Paris to film the monumental Let The Be Rock concert film, a quintessential document of a golden moment in the band's rise to world fame. First released in Europe on 17 October and released internationally on 20 October , it was produced by Brendan O'Brien. The album was the band's final studio release to feature founding rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young , who left the band in September after being diagnosed with dementia , and died three years later. The album's development was delayed because bass guitarist Cliff Williams sustained an injury and the band changed labels from Elektra Records to Sony Music. O'Brien tried to recapture the rock sound of the band's early work, as opposed to the blues orientation of Ballbreaker and Stiff Upper Lip , with suggestions such as adding " soul crooning " to Brian Johnson 's singing. The songs were mostly recorded live in the studio; engineer Mike Fraser used only sparse overdubs and effects to keep the tracks as close to the originals as possible. Black Ice was released exclusively in physical formats, as the group did not sell its music digitally at the time. Wal-Mart got exclusive rights to distribute the album in North America.
