The Electric Fence Post shocks players as well as the player that placed the traps regardless them being within Land Claim Block territory and Zombies who touch the wire between two connected posts. The wires can go through any block. The maximum distance between 2 posts is 14 blocks, not counting the blocks the posts stand on. A higher level in the associated perk will decrease the crafting cost, saving resources. When a player or Zombie comes within range of the wire between two connected posts and touches the wire, they receive the Shocked status effect. This causes 3 damage to health every 0. Zombies will have their speed reduced to 0. Though the Zombies are effectively immobilized during this time, they will still attack players and blocks that are in range. Players will be slowed but not as nearly immobilized as Zombies. After the Shocked status effect expires, a Zombie is immune to further shocking for 1.

Butcher Tool. When a player is shocked, the Electric Fence Post instead takes continuous damage to its Durability until the player moves out of range of the live wire.

However, this is not true in the case of players, and they will continue receiving the electric shock unless they move away or the fence stops working! The only thing I've found as a solution is to put the fence posts sideways to the ground, so the wire is dead middle of the block. On the off chance this does actually happen to be a bug it would be nice to at least get some confirmation that this is not the way it is supposed to work.
