The film is set in a single apartment building in Mumbai and follows the stories of three different couples who live on three different floors. The first story follows the story of a young couple, Ankit Rathee and Aisha Ahmed , who are trying to conceive a child. However, their lives are turned upside down when they receive a mysterious gift from a stranger. The second story follows the story of a middle-aged couple, Pulkit Samrat and Richa Chadha , who are struggling in their marriage. Pulkit is having an affair, and Richa is suspicious. However, when they are caught in a robbery attempt, they must work together to survive. The third story follows the story of an older couple, Renuka Shahane and Sharman Joshi , who are dealing with the loss of their son.

Finally Vilas, who is eager to take a house near station, buys it. Whereas in the same building, Varsha is facing daily abuse from her unemployed and alcoholic husband. On the other hand, she still has feelings for her past lover, Shankar, and bonds well with her neighbour and tends her little son. Suhail and Malini fall in love being from different faiths much to the chagrin of their parents. On the ground floor lives glamorous Leela, who sends seductive vibes towards men around. The lives of the people living in Mayanagar do not seem to be what it is, as there are hidden secrets. At the end, it is revealed that Leela was actually the author of all the three stories In the first part, we see Flory attending a prospect buyer, Vilas, who is frustrated looking for accommodation in Mumbai. Vilas does not fuss a lot on hearing the exorbitant price charged by her. Later, she goes inside to make tea for them. Vilas sees some family pictures and inquires further. She tells him about her son who had a habit of stealing, and she used to defend him from other members of the chawl and his father. Time passes and one day at a wedding function in the chawl, she finds her son bludgeoned and in his dying state some precious diamonds to hide.

The film is set in a Mumbai chawl and the three main characters live on different floors of the chawl - three stories on three storeys. If you find that boring or cheesy, you are likely to be disappointed by the stories as well. None of the stories is unpredictable or too novel, except, maybe for one. Richa Chadha, who is also seen in the narrative, plays the sootradhaar, the storyteller in the movie that can be divided in three acts, and the ending is quite a treat! The most interesting story is the first one - that of Renuka Shahane aka Flory Aunty. She lives alone and is looking for a buyer for her flat. Her story, though predictable is an interesting one and has also been narrated smoothly. The second story is that of an old flame suddenly appearing in front of a woman, who is struggling to bear her abusive husband. Played by Masumeh, the character looks authentic, though this one is the most boring and monotonous.

Life, in all its sorrows and joy, big scales and small notes, stretches where nothing happens, and flurries where everything happens all at once, is nothing short of full-on drama, and this is what ensemble pieces like 3 Storeys draw upon. Even if not madly original, ensemble pieces can turn out interesting if consistently told. But very few filmmakers like to take this route, because we like our endings neat. Everyone plays it quite competently, despite the predictable beats. Nice to see Shahane, who aims for naturalness despite some stodginess in the way her part is written.
