Born into the famous Ninja series of sportsbikes, a title which the ZX6R still proudly displays to this day. Kawasaki would make many changes to the ZX6R over the coming years to keep up with competition from Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha. In Kawsaki made a big change where they increased the engine capacity to cc. I often see people getting confused with identifying these bikes. The ZX6 and the are exactly the same bike, though Kawsaki did make a ZX6-RR race version of the bike which maintained the cc capacity engine to ensure eligibility into displacement restricted supersport racing. In they further revised the engine with larger cams, a new head and polished ports. The engine is what this version of the little Ninja is best known for, it produces a claimed BHP and at the time led the way in the supersport class. From the moment I threw a leg over the bike, the first thing that struck me was how big the bike feels. Setting off through town, the ZX6 was a pleasure. Silky smooth gear changes, plenty of power from nice and low in the rev range and a nice light clutch. Heading towards the Lake District, I was really keen to get going on the bigger roads. Coming out of corners, you find that it lacks the low rpm frustration that you can sometimes feel on a bike like a CBR or an R6.

Also new for is a slipper clutch and petal discs. The most appreciable difference between this and the Kawasaki ZX-6R it replaced is the quality of the ride. It all works flawlessly. The exquisite fuelling, the easy mid-range, the searing power, the screaming airbox…. It makes a genuine bhp at the back wheel, which easily makes it the most powerful middleweight motor of its time.

My first bike was a scared the confidence out of me, so I got rid of it and purchased a Instant regret huge mistake. Just bought a feel at home again. Never going to let it go. I got this as my first bike in the middle of winter because I finally got my license and there was a great deal on one. Before buying the , I test drove an '04 R6 and it was nowhere near as good. I've put about miles on it so far and it is doing amazing.

Engine 4 out of 5. Also, the caliper for the mm rear disc brake mounts directly to the swingarm, negating the need for an independent brake tie-rod. Very easy bike to ride and inspires confidence in both town and country riding. I could have just said theres reasons I love this bike because thats how many revs there are, but that wouldn't do justice to the other things that are attached around the engine and the Ram Air fed air box! I did have the busted transmission which I fixed myself Closing Thoughts: Well, what an awesome little bike! Before moving on, there are a couple more things to note with the drivetrain. The V-twin offerings are a little easier to handle but come with a significantly higher price tag. This has been achieved with some significant work to the top end of the engine.
Kawasaki has made the Ninja ZX-6R since But it did so on the back of a few iterations of class motorcycles. And since then, Kawasaki has updated the ZX-6R considerably and multiple times, always maintaining its unique edge in the class segment in some way.
If you want my opinion: remortgage, sell the wife, do what ever it takes. Four stroke, transverse four cylinder, DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder. This was my first time on a ZX6R and I must admit you can really feel the benefits of having that extra 30 odd cc. Tough looking 41mm upside-down forks score a trick new surface coating to reduce stiction while the race inspired ZX-6RR also scores this coating on the internal surfaces of the fork sliders. Looks the part with the gold forks and callipers plus the petal leaf discs look the business too. This helps the ZX-6R make better low and mid-range power, and only gets praise from this corner, especially on the rain soaked mountain roads around the Circuit Almeria during our street ride.
