Suggest an edit. We came here at the recommendation of our hotel concierge after we asked for the best dim sum in all of Hong Kong. The second we arrived, we knew it wasn't what we were looking for. We were looking for an authentic hole-in-the-wall, where all the locals go. This place was filled with locals, but it was too fancy. Since we'd already made the journey here, we decided to try a few dishes. We got the steamed shrimp dumplings, but the shrimp was a bit overcooked so we weren't impressed.

Food is delicious along with great service. They changed their menu a bit. May Red Star has been serving quality dim sum reliably in the Marpole district for at least 20 years under multiple ownerships. What amazing is some of the staff has been there for just as long and they recognize their regular customers by name. The food quality remain strong. Hours : Cambie Rd. Dinner prices are on the high side, but food is served hot in good portion. Bring your own Doogie box to bring left over home. Plenty of free parking. The menu is traditional, not many new style dimsum varieties like other Cantonese restaurants. Their seafood have always been very fresh, I always got amazed that I could taste the sweetness from the fresh shrimps in shrimp rice rolls.
